Sydney’s Northern Beaches were not spared the fury of gale force winds and rain that hit the east coast of  NSW with 120 km hour winds recorded at North Head resulting in wide spread damage throughout Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Shire’s. Uprooted trees were strewn through parks footpaths and private properties.

Mona Vale Road at Ingleside was blocked as was Barrenjoey Road at Avalon by fallen trees.Combined with flash flooding the northern beaches resembled a disaster area in places as hugh seas pounded the coastline.

Wakehurst Parkway was closed due to flooding creating chaos for morning commuters.

One of the luckiest escapes from tragedy was had by Ken Bullen propriter of KB Marine located in Garden Street Narrabeen, when gale force winds blew the brick walls out of  the workshop resulting in two brick walls at the side and rear of the workshop crashing down on parked cars in the adjoining carpark and crashing down into a property adjoining the rear of the workshop.

Mr Ken Bullen (above) following the near tragic collapse of his workshop during Tuesdays storm.

I spoke to a shaken Mr Bullen who said “at the end of the day no one was injured and that’s a good thing, but gee this is going to knock me around, I just got back on my feet after a fire went through the place just over ten years ago, now I am back to square one, but as I said no one was hurt so I am thankful for that”, “engineers are on their way, it looks like a knock down and rebuild to me”

Mr Bullen has been in business for thirty six years.

The park opposite Mr Bullen’s workshop in Garden Street was littered with uprooted trees and debris, along with flooding from the high water brought in by the five to six meter swells pounding the coast and pouring into Narrabeen Lake.
